Are your ears plugged up with wax? Feeling blocked or imbalanced? Unable to have water in your ears? These could be signs of wax and/or debris occlusion.
Microsuction is the safest cleaning method for your ears. It’s safe, gentle, dry, and effective, performed by qualified audiologists—experts in ear and hearing care. No referral required.

The Procedure

Before the procedure, you will receive a questionnaire/intake form regarding your ear health. The questionnaire will include questions about your current symptoms (such as hearing loss, itching, ringing, or a feeling of blockage) and if you have had ear suction done previously.

Once the form is completed, our friendly team will contact you to confirm your booking. It is advised to use ear drops or ear wax removal spray at least 3-5 days before your appointment to soften or dissolve the ear wax. These can be purchased over-the-counter at your local chemist. If you do not have access to drops or spray, you can use 2-3 drops of olive oil in each ear.

At the appointment, our highly trained clinician will discuss the completed questionnaire with you. The clinician will then examine your ear canal to check for infection and confirm the presence of excessive wax that needs to be removed.
If wax removal is clinically indicated, the microsuction procedure will be explained and commence. The entire procedure should take approximately 20 minutes for adults and 30 minutes for children. If the wax is hard and difficult to remove, a follow-up visit might be required.

A very small micro-suction catheter attached to suction tubing will be gently inserted into your ear canal. This catheter functions like a tiny vacuum cleaner to remove excess ear wax. Throughout the procedure, your clinician will carefully observe the process with a headlamp fitted with a bright light and magnification to ensure direct vision of your ear canal and drum is maintained at all times.
You might experience a little discomfort from the sound of the machine and vacuum, but there should not be any pain.
